Business & Job Creation

  1. Creating a company with at least 5 jobs: €500 000 
    Invest a minimum of €500,000 to establish a new business in Portugal that creates at least five permanent jobs. 
  2. Creating a business with at least 10 jobs  with (no specified investment) 
    Qualify by starting a business in Portugal that generates at least ten full-time jobs, with no required minimum capital.

  • Nationality: Must be a non-EU/EEA/Swiss national (third-country national). 
  • Age: Must be at least 18 years old. 
  • Investment: Make and maintain a qualifying investment for at least five years. Minimum investment amounts depend on the route: 
  • €250,000 donation to cultural heritage preservation. 
  • €500,000 investment in approved investment funds or venture capital. 
  • €500,000 investment in scientific research institutions. 
  • Business creation of at least 10 new full-time jobs, or €500,000 investment in an existing company with at least 5 jobs. 
  • Residency: Spend at least seven days in Portugal in the first year, then at least fourteen days during every subsequent two-year period. 
  • Criminal record: Have a clean criminal record from Portugal and the applicant’s country of origin. 
  • Legal entry: Have a valid passport and legally enter Portugal. 
  • Proof of legal source of funds for the investment. 
  • Family inclusion: Eligible family members (spouse, dependent children, dependent parents under 65) can be included, provided they meet similar documentation and clean record requirements. 

No educational or language requirements apply at the residency application stage, but Portuguese language proficiency (A2) is necessary when applying for citizenship after five years.

How to get a Portuguese Citizenship
  1. Choose your investment route and work with a licensed migration advisor at ATBGM. 
  2. Obtain a Portuguese NIF (tax number) and open a local bank account. 
  3. Complete investment and gather required documents. 
  4. Submit application to SEF (Portuguese Immigration and Borders Service). 
  5. Attend biometric appointment in Portugal. 
  6. Receive 2-year residence permit (renewable every 2 years). 
  7. Maintain minimum stay (7 days per year). 
  8. Apply for Portuguese citizenship after 5 years.
